Edna Banlund

Edna Lillian Berg was born March 25, 1925, in Tacoma, Wash., to Christian and Margaret Berg. She lived her early years in Tacoma, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1943. Her brother, James Roy Berg, did not survive World War II, dying in France in February 1945.

Edna married Jack Revard in 1945,  and they had four sons, Jack Jr., James, John and Joseph. Jack was in the Coast Guard, and they lived in Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Texas and then back to Alaska where he retired in Sitka in 1962. They loved the area so much they decided to stay.

In 1964 they purchased Lowell’s Restaurant from Lowell Staton and renamed it Revard’s Restaurant which she owned and operated until 1994. During that time she also owned and operated the Coffee Cup Café, a 24/7,  365 days a year, café located on the present site of the Lahmeyer Building.

Edna and Jack divorced in 1968, and she married Werner (Rudy) Branlund in 1980. They traveled throughout Southeast Alaska on their boat, the Viking Queen, and enjoyed annual trips to Hawaii until Rudy died in 1997.

She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed teaching them crocheting, berry picking and pie making, among other skills and crafts.

Edna was a member of the Emblem Club and the Pioneers of Alaska. The Emblem Club became a focused activity of hers, and she served as president of the club in 2001-02.

In July 2010, she moved to San Tan Valley, Ariz., to live with Jack Jr., Valerie, Tiffany and Grayson Revard. She lived with them until 2014 when she moved into a nursing home, where she stayed until the end of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jack Revard and Rudy Branlund, and her eldest son Jack. Surviving her are sons James (Cathy) of Sitka; John of Bellingham, Wash.; and Joseph (Helen Hannigan) of Seattle; and Jack Jr.’s wife, Valerie, of Florence, Ariz.

Her grandchildren are Ann (John) Mosqueda of Fort Worth, Texas; Tiffany Revard of Florence; Cameron (Emily) Revard, Kelly Revard (Mario Lechuga), Charles Revard and Rachel Revard, all of Bellingham.

Her great-grandchildren are Celeste Mosqueda of Fort Worth, Grayson Revard of Florence, and Clementine Revard and Dutch Revard of Bellingham.

In lieu of flowers a donation may be sent to the Sitka Emblem Club, 412 Sawmill Creek Road, Sitka 99835.
