Wanda Bandy

Graveside services for former Sitka resident Wanda June Bandy, will be held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, at Sitka National Cemetery.

Wanda died Oct. 9, 2015, in Kansas City, Mo. She was 72.

A celebration of her life was held Oct. 15 in Independence, Mo.

Wanda was born June 15, 1943, in Okemah, Okla. She served in the U.S. Army from 1962 until 1963, and attended Longview Community College in Independence.

From Oklahoma, the family  moved to Kansas City, Mo. She came to Sitka in 1998, and returned to Kansas City in 2005, but would return to Sitka in the summers to visit her son, Bill Bandy.

While living in Sitka, she worked at Westmark Shee Atika. She also was on the White Elephant Shop board, and was a member of Baranof Arts and Crafts Association.

She was a Past Bethel Guardian of Job’s Daughters.

Wanda was a very outgoing person who had many friends. She enjoyed going to casinos, crafts, collecting angels, Kansas Chiefs football, Kansas City Royals baseball, old movies and game shows.

Most of all, Wanda loved her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Bandy Sr.

She is survived by daughters Norma Wolf and husband Brad, of Kansas City, Mo.; Wilma Bandy and fiancée David Sprague, East Peoria, Ill.; and son Bill Bandy Jr., Sitka.

 

Also surviving are grandchildren Alecia Klotz and husband Brandon, of Peoria, Ill.; Savannah Lacy, Overland Park, Kansas; Amanda Lacy, Kansas City, Mo.; and Thomas Blood, Pekin, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.
